Documents that are intended to be edited to fit the local congregation's needs are Microsoft Word 2003 documents. [Word 2003 documents end with ".doc".] Microsoft Word can be purchased as a standalone product from Microsoft or as part of a Microsoft Office package. Newer versions of Microsoft Word
are backwards compatible with the Word 2003 ".doc" format. For information on purchasing Microsoft Word or a Microsoft Office package, visit Microsoft Office Online or a local computer software retailer.
You can also download a suite of office products that are compatible with the Microsoft Office document formats at OpenOffice.org. The OpenOffice.org products are from Sun Microsystems and store data in an international open standard
format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages including Microsoft Office. OpenOffice.org can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose.
Documents that are not intended to be edited are usually in Portable Document Format (PDF) files that end in ".pdf". Free Adobe Acrobat Reader software is available that allows PDF files to be downloaded, viewed and printed, but PDF
documents cannot easily be changed or edited. Adobe Acrobat Reader software is from Adobe Systems.
Occasionally other file formats will be used. Microsoft PowerPoint presentations are in a PowerPoint Show format (.pps) that can be viewed without any special software on your computer.
Complete web pages can be saved on your computer or printed on your printer using the "File → Save As" or "File → Print" functions on your web browser menu.
