This annual stewardship magazine has
helpful articles, worship resources, planning guides and information on
ordering additional 2009 Stewardship Theme Material.
This year’s giving emphasis theme is
based on a passage in Lamentations. It is a scripture that resonates
with people who have suffered or have learned to be compassionate with
those who have suffered. However, in the midst of hardship these verses
of hope shine through, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
God’s mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is
your faithfulness.”
The basis of our hope is that the
Lord is a radically generous God! We have a calling, a vocation you
might say, to live out such a hope by the way we receive, give, use,
manage and share all that God has given us — including our every breath!
“Blessed be the Lord God” comes from
the song of Zechariah — celebrating the birth of John the Baptist and
announcing the birth of the Christ. “Blessed be the Lord God” invites
congregations to meditate on the biblical songs as they discern their
individual and household giving for the following year. It reminds us
that all our giving is in response to God’s greatest gift in Jesus
Christ.
This theme reminds us that we are all greatly indebted
to the persons who raised us, guided us, taught us and protected us. We
repay those debts by doing whatever we can to better society by passing
on some of their love to other, by reaching out and listening to the
cries of those who have fallen through the cracks of life.
This is an appropriate theme for the
congregation that wants to emphasize thanksgiving as a response to God’s
good gifts.
Other Stewardship Theme Resources
In
2008, the Stewardship Task Force developed a theme of
"Cutting Corners". The theme
emphasizes that now is not the time to be cutting back on our giving to
the Lord's work in the world even though that may be difficult for us
personally with today's economic conditions.

"Stewardship
in a Box" uses a theme of "Our Gifts to God". All of the
material in the "Box" follow that theme.
